A common adage I have hear:
“When I have the money, I don’t have the time.
When I have the time, I don’t have enough money”
There is a truth to that. Most people work on an hourly basis. Preforming a service that requires specific amount of time to earn an hourly wage or commission. Therefore, when you are putting in many hours your wallet is a bit thicker, but if you take any time off to play or enjoy…. your wallet becomes thinner by the minute……. then you must hurry back to work !!
Sad situation for sure.
My parents were in that routine as I grew up. I learned early what working 14-18 hour days provided, but knew I wanted to enjoy more of “living” …. not just working. After leaving home and beginning to plan my own future, I focused on finding ways to make income that were not directly related to hours spent. Also, I found that by having 2 or more income sources, I was able to multiply my efforts without adding more work hours.
Yes, it did take me a few years to find the right mix, by trial and error. Many people choose not to learn, but stay in their limited world and complain, complain and more complaining. Myself, I distance myself from that type of person as best I can. I refuse to blame the world or others, but seek to allow my situation to change and grow. I enjoy challenges, learning and accomplishing new tasks. Small or large, it builds a pattern of seeing possibilities… NOT WALLS. If I am presented with a wall, I seek a door or a ladder and move forward.
Over the years I have been very fortunate. I enjoy travel, trying new foods, tasting local wine and brews. Nearly two dozen countries so far…….. and looking for more travels soon.
As I have “aged” a bit, I do feel that others could change their situations as well. I like to mentor and assist when I see someone who truly wants to learn. No I don’t need to charge a fee, just like to see their excitement. I have taught many how to scuba dive. Whether you are a teenager, or nearing 40, the expression on their face when they surface from the first open water dive is priceless. I had just opened an entire new world to them which they had not realized was a matter of minutes away.
For myself, it is the same each time I travel to a new country. The people, foods, customs and history allow me to meet new friends and memories. Europe, Asia, S America……each different for sure, but each with unique environments. I am glad that no two are the same……
If you have a business or would like to find a way to stop the Friday to Friday pay cycle, I would enjoy helping you make the transition. You won’t to take years as I first did, but can be earning fun money in weeks…… then you too will have the ability to plan, not complain.
